I. 4 ways to free up Gmail space

1. Delete Gmail attachments

Attached files like PDF, Word, Excel… in emails you receive or emails you send takes up a large portion of Gmail's storage space. To free up Gmail space, you should delete email attachments that are no longer in use.

Quick start Guide

Enter search filename:PDF > Right click on the mail containing the file attach > Select Erase.

Detailed instructions

Step 1: Open Gmail, in the search bar enter the command filename with file format eg: filename:PDF. You can change Rename PDF files with other formats such as mp3, MP4, jpg, etc.

Step 2: Right-click emails with unused attachments and select Erase.

Select the attachment you want to delete.

2. Search File by Size in Gmail to delete

Gmail helps you search files by size to see which attachments are taking up the most space. Then you select and delete large attachments in Gmail not used anymore to free up Gmail space.

Type search Larger:1MB > Right click on the mail containing the file attach > Select Erase.

Step 1: At the Gmail interface on the search bar enter the code Larger with specific capacity, for example: Larger:1MB or change the capacity as you like.

3. Empty Trash and Spam folder

Trash folder and Spam folder take up a lot of Gmail space. Gmail still supports users to automatically delete messages in the trash after 30 days. However, if the email capacity is full, Please go to trash and spam folders right now!

Type search in:spam or in:trash  > Delete mail in these two directories.

Step 1: At the Gmail interface on the search bar, enter the code print:spam in the toolbar to find the Spam folder or the command in:trash to delete the folder in the recycle bin.

4. Free up Gmail space by deleting old emails, read emails

After performing the above 3 ways, the free Gmail space is not freed up much, please do more ways delete old emails and read emails. Please open this folder, then filter out old and read emails that are not important, no longer in use and delete these emails.

Type search older_than:1y > Select mail read, doesn't matter > Choose Erase.

Step 1: At the Gmail interface on the search bar enter the code older_than:1y on the toolbar to find old mails within 1 year. The symbol 1y means 1 year, you can replace it with other symbols such as: 1m (1 month), similar: w= week: week, d= day with any number.
